Recirculating Aquaculture Systems - RAS

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems - RAS

RAS offers an intensive way to grow fish but with a major drawback that the majority of systems require a change of water every month or grow cycle so cannot be operated on a zero discharge basis. RAS systems also carry a significant energy footprint to oxygenate and move water around which impacts on overall operating cost and fish production cost. Most but not all RAS systems are combinatorial, connecting technologies from different suppliers in a manner which may not optimise overall efficiency.

The performance of pre-existing or new RAS systems can be increased by incorporating Matsya's suite of technologies. Key benefits include: lower operating cost, faster growth cycles, larger and healthier fish compared to RAS alone.

We can integrate systems to achieve:

Oxygen transfer

Oxygen transfer using either air or where very high fish densities are required, pure oxygen

Water treatment

Water treatment enabling operation as a closed loop system with zero discharge

System feed

In system feed production using our advanced algal reactor technology which collapses the feed overhead.

System sterilisation

In situ system sterilisation for feed recycle, water circuits and general biosecurity

Microbubble bank

A microbubble bank which increases feed consumption, feed conversion efficiency, and enhances fish superoxide enzymes thereby reducing hypercaponic hypoxia which greatly improves fish health and ability to counter microbial infection.

Matsya Enhanced RAS

Matsya enhanced RAS is adaptable to different species, and can integrate a high level of sensing, monitoring, and control enabling systems to be remotely controlled reducing the labour overhead. We provide new build through to retrofit solutions which are bespoke to customer requirements, location and availability of waste streams. Please contact us for further information.
